Reflexology FAQs
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy which involves the application of light to medium pressure and sometimes the use of small silicone cups over specific points of the feet and face. Sarah will use special techniques to stimulate specific points on the feet or face, which correspond to other parts of the body. Working over these areas releases energetic blockages and will help bring about balance and healing in the body.
What are the benefits of reflexology?
The benefits of reflexology are wide-reaching throughout the body, but it is especially good at helping to relieve stress, tension and anxiety. It can also help to rebalance hormones, improve your sleep, boost energy levels, help to detox your body and boost your immune system.
Reflexology can also help with the following issues:
Headaches and migraines
Joint aches and pains
Arthritis and joint pain
Infertility
During pregnancy (after the first 12 weeks)
Insomnia and sleep disorders
Depression
Respiratory health
Stress related illnesses
Premenstrual tension (PMT)
Digestive issues
Menopause
What is facial reflexology?
Facial reflexology is very relaxing and is extremely effective at reducing stress and anxiety by helping the body to heal and rebalance itself. It is also great for helping people who suffer with headaches and migraines, bells palsy, bruxism, menopausal issues, stress, anxiety and depression. During facial reflexology gentle pressure is applied to the different reflex zones and reflexology points on the face. As in foot reflexology, these points relate to areas of the body. Facial reflexology also encourages a healthy blood and lymph flow, while stimulating collagen and elastin, helping your skin to rejuvenate and age well.
What happens during a facial reflexology treatment?
Each treatment starts with a short consultation. There is no need to remove clothing. Whilst relaxing on the treatment bed, the treatment begins with a gentle but deep cleansing and exfoliation of the face and neck, using high quality products. Sarah will then begin your reflexology treatment. Once she has finished the reflexology, she will remove the oil from your skin and apply serums, moisturiser and SPF (if the treatment is happening in daylight hours).
How often should I have reflexology?
The number of treatments you might need depends on the issue you want help with, how long you have had it and what you hope to achieve from the treatment. If you have a specific health issue, it is recommended that you have sessions one or two weeks apart for a month or two, then monthly as a maintenance programme.
If you are having treatments to promote general relaxation, health and balance in your body, then have as many treatments as you like. The frequency of treatments is totally up to you - you could have a treatment once per week, once per month or even just once per year.
What should I do before my treatment?
Don’t drink alcohol before your treatment and it’s not advisable to have a heavy meal just before your treatment either. Please also make sure you have completed your consultation form (found in your confirmation email) before attending your treatment. Other than that, you don’t need to do anything.
Can I fall asleep during my reflexology?
Most people feel really relaxed and often fall asleep during their treatment. You don’t have to, you can talk to me if you want to. The point is that the treatment time belongs to you for you to relax however you like. If that’s a chat, great, but if that’s falling asleep then that’s great too.
Do I need to undress for reflexology?
No, you just need to take your shoes and socks off for foot reflexology. For facial reflexology you just need to remove your shoes and any high necked clothing.
Are there toilets/hand-washing facilities?
Yes. There is a bathroom right next to the treatment room in both the Kensal Rise and Queens Park treatment rooms, which you are welcome to use.
What is included in the treatment time?
Your treatment time includes your treatment and time to consult with Sarah on your needs. If you are more than five to ten minutes late then this will eat into your treatment time.
Should I arrive early for my reflexology?
No. Please arrive on time for your appointment.
What should I do after my reflexology?
Drink lots of water to help flush out any toxins that have been removed by the reflexology. Avoiding excess alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours after your treatment is very wise, so as to allow the body to detoxify.
What are the after effects of reflexology?
Most people experience no ill-effects after their treatment, however, some people do experience cold or flu-like symptoms after reflexology, so don’t be alarmed. Some people experience heightened emotions after treatment. It is a sign that your body is detoxing and healing after your treatment. In reflexology terms, we refer to this as a ‘healing crisis’. You might feel tired after your treatment, but this is normal.
Do I need to tip my therapist?
Tips are never expected at all, but always appreciated if you feel you want to leave one.
What is your cancellation policy?
The full fee for the treatment will be charged for any booking not cancelled within 24 hours. If you do not show up for your appointment and do not contact Sarah to explain, you will be charged the full fee and you will not be permitted to book in with her again.
